[Busan Technology Startup Company 11]
Busan CBS is preparing a continuous report to find the vision of Busan economy in a promising company that is hoping to become a global company through technology start-up and innovation. Today, we introduce an IT company that is helping local small and mid-sized companies innovate with the nation's best smart factory construction technology.

◇ GST Co., Ltd., leading the 'smart factory', the secret of corporate growth in the 4th Industrial Revolution

Geumgok-dong Busan Knowledge Industrial Center is home to many IT companies in Busan. This is GST, a company specializing in the smart factory (smart factory) field, which is the core of the 4th industrial revolution.

At the 'Smart Factory and Automation Industry Exhibition 2018' held in COEX, Seoul in March, GST won the award from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, the highest honor among 480 participating companies, and showed off its unique presence in the field of smart factory construction.

In fact, the achievements of the company are so spectacular that it is difficult to discuss the 4th industrial revolution in Busan without GST. Beginning with the selection of the excellent software discovery project hosted by the Busan Small and Medium Business Support Center, which was the predecessor of the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, in 2007, it was selected as the 10 Best Cases of Korea's Informatization by the Small and Medium Business Technology Information Agency in 2012, a leading company in Busan in 2013, and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in 2014. It was selected as a smart factory IT solution company and was recognized for its technology and business performance.

In particular, the smart factory built by GST was selected as one of the 20 best cases of smart factory construction by the Public-private Joint Smart Factory Promotion Team, which serves as the control tower for the government's smart factory dissemination project. It has been recognized as one of the three successful cases, and it was recognized as a successful case that one was selected last year.

GST has built more than 80 smart factories in the past 10 years, and most companies have realized innovation, productivity improvement, and quality improvement and sales to the extent that there are no failure cases. The smart factory building technology is rated as the best in the region, with unparalleled results in the region, and even in the Southeast, where even global companies and high-ranking companies are hungry.

◇ Manufacturing Innovation Foundation based on ICT Technology Prepares for the Future

GSTI's position in the smart factory field is unique. Unlike a typical service company, which tries to attract even one customer, GST chooses them. More than 40 customer companies are requesting the construction of smart factories, but 15 of them are the maximum capacity they can afford each year, except for the existing system maintenance.

What is the secret to GST's success despite the poor conditions in the local manufacturing industry, which are mostly small and medium-sized companies with insufficient investment, and the smart factory market is not yet ripe?

Representative Oh Jun-cheol cited "We prepared one step ahead of others." Mr. Oh, who spent 13 years as a leading steel export company, suddenly left the company in 2005 and started a one-man company. In his accounting, tax, IT, and trade experiences, he thought of 'innovation in manufacturing as the limit of growth' as a business item. At the time, it remained at the level of factory automation, but as soon as the 4th Industrial Revolution theory was released in 2010, it immediately secured relevant papers and began designing them for industrial sites.

Although there were many trials and errors as we prepared the smart factory earlier, the opportunity was open to those who were one step ahead. The government was able to participate in the smart factory pilot project (informatization support project), which began in late 2013, and was selected as the best case company among the companies that carried out the project.

Four to five years ahead of the competition, the company focused on the factory automation business with IT, and efforts to develop solutions for local manufacturing characteristics and environments began to pay off. The number of smart factories, which had only been built four to five per year by 2014, has increased to around 10 since 2015.

Sales in the mid-1 billion won in 2014 grew from early 2 billion won in 2015 to 3.3 billion won in 2016. Last year, the company focused on building a cloud-based smart factory system, a key new technology in the manufacturing industry, and preparing for the next generation business. .

The global market for smart factories is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 9.3%, from $ 12 billion in 2016 to 205.4 billion in 2022.In the same period, the domestic smart factory market is expected to grow 12.1% annually from $ 6.4 billion to $ 12.6 billion. As expected, there seems to be sufficient evidence of GST's confidence.

◇ The technology is tailored for local manufacturing companies

The concept of smart factories is to create intelligent factories that increase productivity, quality and customer satisfaction by applying information and communication technology (ICT) to the entire manufacturing process, from product design and development to manufacturing, distribution and logistics. It is a precision service that replaces the brain and nerve tissue with new ones.

In addition to factory automation (FA), production operations management (MES), product development support (PLM), supply chain management (SCM), enterprise resource management (ERP), factory energy management (FEMS), etc. Automating and digitizing across the board can help you achieve real innovation.

However, not many smart factory builders can design and apply the whole process of smartization. While simple factory automation and office computerization (ERP) are already saturated, the field of production operations management (MES and industrial IoT), a key area of smart factories, remains a scarce area with few specialized companies. Post-maintenance is just as important as the introduction of the system, which often leads to failures due to system instability.

CEO Oh Jun-cheol said, "80-90% of companies requesting us have experienced one or more failures in factory smartization, and the remaining 10% have experienced three or four failures." Emphasize that this is a difficult and risky business.

GS has dramatically reduced the possibility of failures through its differentiated and utilized technology and stable AS operation. The company developed the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) equipment that can be applied to local manufacturing sites with a high proportion of root industries such as parts, metal processing, forging, casting, heat treatment, and machine assembly, so that the factory can be smartized at low cost. In spite of being a local company, it was included in 8 companies nationwide that selected 'cloud type smart factory construction company' selected by the public-private joint smart factory promotion team, and 3 of the 7 companies built last year were the best (S) grade and the remaining 4 Excellent (A) decision was obtained and proved competently.

'Shinhwa ST', which built a smart factory, grew 70% in a year, and Kyungpyeong Special Rubber's sales doubled in three years.

◇ The world's first 'cloud-based smart factory'

Established a cloud-based smart factory platform for precision machining manufacturers in the manufacturing field (MES) rather than the office (ERP), GST is the first in the country and the world. GSTI has its own IDC center and provides cloud-based services for SMEs that cannot afford the high cost of computing server construction. Local SMBs can use a secure infrastructure for nearly one-fifth the cost of building a smart factory.

GST plans to make inroads into Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar, where the Korean manufacturing industry is growing, as well as domestic SMEs, using a cloud-based smart factory platform.

Last month, he was selected for the 'Commercial Convergence Business' project of the Ministry of Science and ICT. In the next two years, the company will receive R & D expenses of 1 billion won and jointly cooperate with Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency to conduct IoT and cloud-based advanced smart factory service R & D for local metal manufacturing industries such as CNC machining, machine tool and parts processing.

Starting in May, the company will win a smart factory construction project for a precision machining company in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do. Upon the request of Siheung City, the company plans to launch a full-scale cloud-based MES smart factory concept briefing for 10-sized manufacturers this year.

The government plans to smartize 10,000 plants by 2020 and expand 20,000 smart plants by 2022. In the field of building smart factories, local SMEs are performing as well as profits and profitability.
